Winter Lights and Canary Wharf Ice Rink

Have you seen Winter Lights – a beautiful free exhibition that took over Canary Wharf? Make it your evening plan!
Come here to enjoy over 30 impressive interactive and playful installations created by amazing artists from all over the world. Bring your kids or friends with you to make the most of it and check my Winter Lights story on Instagram to get a taste of what it’s like.
⠀
From what I’ve seen, my favourite piece is “On your Wavelength”. It’s an interactive cubic installation that brings different lights on and off based on the person’s thoughts and focus. Those are “read” via an EEG headset that records the electrical signals of the brain. The stronger the signals are – the more lights appear, allowing the brain to play with over 30,000 LEDs lights in tact with specially composed music that’s being played on the background. Absolutely fascinating and a bit geeky – totally up my street.

As I continued my discoveries of what’s on in Canary Wharf, I definitely couldn’t pass by the amazing Ice Rink without trying it out.
One of London’s biggest and my personal favourite ice rink offers 1300 sq m to glide through. Which means that if you are like me and feel like an awkward penguin that has no idea how to ice skate, there is PLENTY of space for you to practice without staying too far from the rail. In fact, when I went there, the ice rink was practically empty which was delightful. That way I could 1) watch the pros do their thing as they gracefully glided away in between doing various pirouettes while I was chilling by the rail; 2) not get killed by the crazy children or other “penguins” like me who also need to hold onto rail.
My favourite bit is the little path that comes out of the main rink, taking you outside with decorated trees above instead of canopy. It’s almost worth to pay a visit just to glide through that path.
How about food?
While in Canary Wharf, I highly recommend to pay a visit to Plateau – an amazing French restaurant overlooking Canada Square. I went there last weekend and was utterly impressed by the quality of food, service, chic setting…and very pleasant offer that is currently available!
⠀
Their Evening Standard Grill menu offers generous 2 courses and a glass of delicious wine for…£20/pp! Alternatively, splash few more quid and go for full 3 course meal with the glass of wine for £25/pp! What a fabulous deal for such a posh and fine restaurant.
⠀⠀
Best to come here with a date to impress or with friends for an exclusive catch-up, enjoying the views of the heart of Canary Wharf and its famous ice rink.
Apologies there aren’t any photos of food! I’ve eaten everything too quickly and only afterwards realised I should have taken some pics to suggest this lovely place! 🙂 Check their menus here to see what’s on offer. From the food I had, the lamb and panna cotta were to die for, just melting in the mouth.
Enjoy your visit to Canary Wharf and let me know how you get on! 🙂
