Silent disco at The View from The Shard
Enjoy dancing away in your bedroom singing into a hairbrush? Why not do (almost the same) thing at the top of the EU’s tallest building? This was my first ever experience of a silent disco and I tell you what – I’m definitely doing it again! Perfect as a present or for a little lush night out treat, the silent disco at the The View from the Shard is a fantastic experience to remember.
First, you enter this stunning 309.7 m (1,016 ft) tall building. The walls show animated maps and video screens that tell you interesting things about the Shard. You’re welcomed by friendly stuff in a modern and shiny lobby, who escort you to the 69th floor in…1 minute!
Now, this is where proper “Wow!” begins. As you step out of the elevator, you get into a breath-taking 360° viewing gallery, overlooking stunning views of London everywhere you look. You’re given a pair of big headphones with three colour-coded music channels to choose from. As you walk around the floor, you can see where the music in your headphones is coming from, with three DJs battling for each of their channels.
What’s the music like?
There is music for everyone here. Simply jump between the channels to enjoy old-school classics, hip-hop, RnB, rock and pop, from Michael Jackson and Nirvana to Beyonce and 50 Cent. This fun choice allows everyone to get right into the groove early on. Plus, when wearing headphones people really don’t feel shy singing the songs out loud 🙂 Just an hour after the party has started I already saw groups of girls screaming Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” at the top of their voice while guys were enjoying “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi – all at the same time in the same room!
The atmosphere is pleasantly weird as you see people dancing in completely different rhythms to different music… And as you find “your people” who are on the same wave as you! Take the headphones off every now and then to enjoy people signing to all the different songs, it’s so much fun! There are drinks available to purchase from two bars. Moreover, there is a cherry on top – an open-air Skydeck on 72nd floor that will take your breath away (literally).
Silent disco at The View from the Shard is a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it. It is the most original way to experience the View from the Shard and a fabulous London night out to remember.
